Jackson Insight Meditation
The term "Insight Meditation" refers both to a spiritual practice shared by all forms of Buddhism, and to a historical Buddhist tradition. The word "insight" is a common translation of the Pali word vipassana, which means "clear seeing." Developing "clear seeing" helps people live their lives with growing skillfulness and ease. As a spiritual practice, Insight Meditation helps cultivate the qualities of mindfulness and equanimity, which in turn foster the deepening of wisdom and compassion, the gateways to liberation and freedom. The practice is well established in this country with centers in many major cities. There are many American teachers in this, and other Buddhist traditions, who began their practices decades ago and are now seasoned and mature teachers. Our group follows talks and writings by various well-established teachers in the Vipassana tradition and other Buddhist traditions.
Our group relies on contributions from participants to pay our rent, but we have no "dues" nor do we ask for any set amount. All are welcome, whether they can contribute or no
The Jackson Insight Meditation Group meets at the Wolfe Art Studio Dojo.
Evening Practice
Monday: 6 - 7 PM
On Monday evenings we offer a Metta or "loving-kindness" practice- a guided practice. Participants can leave in the break between the silent sitting and the guided practice if they wish.
Monday’s meeting is a good place to start if you are a beginner. Basic instruction in settling the mind and body can be offered.
Morning Practice
Tuesday and Thursday: 7 - 7:40 AM
Silent sitting only
Saturday: 8:30-10:30 AM
Saturday mornings we sit for 30 minutes. Following our sitting practice, we have a discussion, based on our study of a recorded Dharma talk, or an excerpt from a book we have chosen for study.
In addition to these meetings, the Jackson Insight Meditation group meets at the home of Paul Pappas, a seasoned meditator in the Theravada/Vipassana tradition-who studied with teachers in Burma, Sri Lanka, and Thailand. 45-minute sitting, Dhamma talk and discussion. Paul is offering talks covering the basic teachings of the Buddha and welcomes questions and discussion.
For information on this meeting, email fraisma@yahoo.com.
Meetings at Paul Pappas' house have been suspended until further notice.

More about Bebe Wolfe:
Elizabeth, “Bebe” as she is called, grew up in an environment that was rich in creative potential. She is the daughter of two artists, Karl and Mildred Wolfe. She attended the Portland School of Art in Portland Maine from 1980 -1984, and received a BFA in painting.
Bebe and her husband David Weidemann moved back to Jackson in 1985 to help Bebe’s mother Mildred with the studio business. The Wolfe Studio is today a full time business, employing many talented artists from the area.
Bebe’s interest in Buddhism and meditation began twenty years ago with an introduction to Zen practice. In 2002 she and David designed and built the Meditation Dojo on their property to provide a place for the Jackson Zen Group to practice. Bebe served as the facilitator for the Jackson Zen Group from 1995 to 2012. She is now helping to facilitate practice for the Jackson Insight Meditation Group. She also acts as host to two other meditation groups that use the Dojo every week as a place of practice.
